We are looking for speakers for Grave Matters: Death Studies Discussion Group for 2023. Each session follows a loose theme with three ten-minute papers followed by questions and discussion.
Proposed dates for 2023 are (all sessions run from 6pm to 7pm GMT):

Death & Nature
We would welcome papers on the themes of, by no means limited to, any aspect of death and the natural world. This could include papers on:
- Plant symbolism and death in literature, film or art.
- Garden cemeteries
- ‘Natural’ or ‘unnatural’ deaths
- Ecological deathways
Death & Feeling
We would welcome papers on the themes of, by no means limited to, any aspect of the emotional response to death. This could include papers on:
- Excessive grief
- Mourning clothes and material culture as conduits of emotion
- Expressing emotion at funerals
- Condolence
The Business of Death
We would welcome papers on the themes of, by no means limited to, any aspect of the business of death. This could include papers on:
- The Victorian commodification of death
- The development of undertaking as a business
- Ceremonies of death and how they have changed and developed
- The future of body disposal
